September is shaping up to be another busy month for families in Kuala Lumpur. The Merdeka spirit continues beyond August 31st, with more patriotic activities and celebrations taking place around the city in the lead-up to Malaysia Day.

It’s also mooncake season. Throughout September, hotels, restaurants, bakeries, and shopping malls across KL will be filling their shelves with traditional baked mooncakes, colorful snow-skin creations, and gift boxes that are almost too pretty to open. If you’re wondering where to find them, take a look at our guide to the best places to buy mooncakes in Kuala Lumpur.

Beyond the cultural celebrations, there’s plenty to keep kids busy this month. The calendar already includes arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, hands-on workshops, lantern making, and a family concert, with many more events still to be announced.

September can occasionally bring a few hazy days to KL too. If the skies turn grey and you’d prefer to stay inside, bookmark our guide to indoor things to do with kids when the haze hits Kuala Lumpur.

Have a scroll through the calendar below, choose a few family favorites, and check back regularly. We’ll continue adding new events as they’re announced.
