A Refreshing Escape From the City
A 3-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan provides a much-needed getaway for solo travelers, couples, and families who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Hyatt Regency’s location in the middle of Palm Beach makes it the perfect venue for this getaway.
Yep, there’s a McDonalds on Palm Beach. You’ll also find a Burger King and a Starbucks as well as a local foodcourt and some market stalls selling toys for kids.
Freshly refurbished, the Hyatt’s fresh tropical ambiance relaxes you the moment you enter the compound. Rooms are grouped into ‘villages,’ with a central courtyard that adds an airy feel to the entire complex.
There are over 300 rooms available — all of them tastefully decorated with hints of traditional Malaysian design. Each room comes with either a private balcony or a patio, with some rooms offering beautiful views of the South China Sea.
The hotel is great for families, with its different dining options, wide open spaces, and proximity to activities like a visit to the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary or the Zoo Teruntum and going on the Kuantan River Cruise.
Dining With a View
The Hyatt Regency Kuantan takes advantage of the resort’s majestic views by offering a wide range of dining options that showcase this. There is something for every type of palate, even for your little ones.
Kampung is an all-day dining restaurant that offers Malay, Chinese, and Indian cuisines, plus a few Western options. Coals on the Beach is perfect for leisurely meals and is also a great place for a romantic dinner.
If you’re a fan of pizza and pasta, head over to Italian Bistro, where you can dine al fresco, indoors, or in a private dining room. The Deli, on the other hand, is a great place for baked goodies and savory treats.
For those who want a sip of their favorite drinks, Chukka offers a variety of wines, spirits, and whiskeys, which you can enjoy while watching live bands onstage. But if you’d rather drink cocktails by the beach, Sampan Bar is your best bet.
Relaxation and Fun for the Whole Family
The Hyatt Regency’s location makes it an amazing place for families to create memories. It’s a quick walk from the resort to the Pantai Cempeduk, allowing you to explore beyond the resort grounds. From here, you can also take a boardwalk to a secluded beach nearby. We gave that a try but turned back halfway as there was a group of monkeys hanging out on the boardwalk.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t much to see within the resort grounds. In fact, The Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort offers so much to do around the compound, even for those who have a limited time to stay. The grounds are beautiful, with tropical touches and flowering trees that remind you to relax and enjoy the moment.
Because the currents are strong during the monsoon season (November to February), the beach is usually closed. When we visited there was a red flag and there was no life guard on duty. So, it’s a good thing there are three pools available at the resort – two large ones and a kiddie pool. There are a lot of lounge chairs around, both under the sun and under the shade. The pool near the main lobby also has a swim-up bar.
There is also a fitness center for those who don’t want to miss out on their exercise routines, as well as a spa.
For the little ones, there is also an activity room for kids and an outdoor playground, perfect for keeping them busy when they get bored or fidgety. The resort also boasts two tennis courts for those who enjoy a game or two of the sport, and The Royal Pahang Golf Club is also a quick drive from the resort.

Our experience at the Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort was truly memorable, and we are already planning our return visit. The tranquil surroundings, coupled with the presence of wildlife, added a unique charm to our stay. The service was impeccable, and the breakfast spread was a delightful start to each day. For families traveling with children, the resort is a haven with its swimming pools, beach access, and a playground, ensuring endless fun for the little ones.
