The Green Adventure Box by Mad About Education is a monthly subscription box for kids that brings nature-based learning into your home. There are two versions: one for 2–3-year-olds and one for 4–6-year-olds. Each box is themed and packed with activities designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and a love for the natural world.
Even though Kuala Lumpur has plenty of beautiful parks and green spaces—we’ve explored many of the best parks in KL for kids—there are still days when heading out just isn’t practical. Whether it’s rainy, hazy, or you’re juggling a busy schedule, the Green Adventure Box offers a way to bring nature-inspired play right into your home—perfect for filling in the gaps and keeping curiosity alive indoors.
Our Unboxing Experience
When our first Green Adventure Box arrived, my daughter—Little Miss R, age five—couldn’t wait to tear into it. The box itself was already fun, with a printed maze on the inside of the entire box. She noticed it right away and set it aside for later—just knowing it was there added to the excitement.
Inside, the theme was “The Animal Kingdom of Invertebrates.” The box included:
- Flashcards featuring different invertebrates
- Worksheets
- A child-sized magnifying glass
- Bark samples in a container
- Parent-friendly guide sheets
Exploring Invertebrates with a Five-Year-Old
The flashcards were the first hit. Within minutes, Little Miss R was in the garden, magnifying glass in hand, hunting for bugs. She found some ants and declared herself an “insect scientist.”
Later, we worked through the worksheets together, which introduced a few of the 35 groups of invertebrates. Little Miss R had to cut out different legless invertebrates and paste them into the correct categories—like protozoa, annelida, and mollusca. (Told you, even mama learned something new!)
As a parent, I appreciated the balance between independent play and guided activities. Some parts (like identifying bug groups) needed a little help, but others she could do on her own while I sat next to her finishing off work for the day.
