Exploring Genting SkyWorlds: An Adventure in the Clouds

Our recent day trip to Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park from Kuala Lumpur was a fun family adventure. 

Nestled in the cool, misty highlands of Genting, this theme park in Genting Highlands offers a perfect mix of excitement and fun. 

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the vibrant atmosphere and the friendly, welcoming staff. 

The park’s nine unique themed worlds provided endless entertainment, with thrilling rides and captivating shows that cater to both kids and adults. 

Join us as we share our personal experiences, insider tips, and why we believe Genting SkyWorlds is a great destination for families seeking fun and adventure in the clouds.

Genting SkyWorlds: Explore Nine Different Worlds 

Entering Genting SkyWorlds Through Studio Plaza or Skyway Avenue Gateway

Our adventure at Genting SkyWorlds either starts at Studio Plaza or at the Skyway Avenue Gateway. 

We entered the park through the Skyway Avenue Gateway Entrance as we took the Awana Cable Car to Genting SkyWorlds.

Both entry points burst with color and style. The lively atmosphere immediately drew us in after we had trouble finding the entrance (we missed a sign), re-setting the tone for an exciting afternoon. 

What we loved about the entrance was the bright and playful architecture. At the Skyway Avenue Gateway Entrance you’ll find a variety of food and beverage stalls offering delicious treats to fuel your adventures from snacks to more filling meals, ensuring everyone finds something they like.

The carnival games, like ring toss and basketball shootouts, add to the fun. Though these games incur additional charges, the chance to win huge stuffed animals makes it worth the try.

Should you enter through Studio Plaza, you’ll land in a similar atmosphere, without the food and beverage stalls and without the carnival games. Instead there’s a big souvenir shop with gifts from all different worlds. 

Rio

We headed straight for Rio and were in luck as the samba dance performance was about to start.

Here, you can feel the rhythm of Rio as you dive into the vibrant culture and colorful attractions inspired by the hit movie.

This lively world captures the spirit of Brazil with carnival rides like the Samba Gliders (a bit too wild for our 4-year-old), Rio Carnival Chaos (which we loved), and the Blue Sky Carrousel (another hit with our daughter).

In this world, you can explore vibrant streets, taste authentic Brazilian cuisine, and join in lively dances that bring Rio to life. The joyful energy and bright, festive decor make every visit to this world a celebration of life and culture.

Ice Age 

The world of Ice Age is close to Rio, and though the Blue Sky Carrousel, situated between the two worlds, is a Rio attraction, it showcases Ice Age characters as well.

It’s fun to “cool off” in the prehistoric fun of Ice Age, where characters from the movie franchise come to life with meet and greets (we met Sid!).

This icy world is perfect for all ages, featuring wild rides and interactive play areas. We enjoyed Sid’s Rock ‘N’ Slide and the Mammoth Fun Zone, a play area for the younger ones. While our daughter was playing, we enjoyed a hot chocolate from Peaches’ Cocoa Concoctions.

We skipped the Acorn Adventure and Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice as they weren’t suitable for little kids.

The snowy landscapes and playful settings—along with the cooler temperatures in Genting Highlands—transport you to the Ice Age era, where you can slide down ice-covered slopes, explore frosty caves, and engage in snowball fights. 

It’s a great world that promises plenty of laughs and memorable moments.

Epic 

Located between the worlds of Rio and Ice Age, you’ll find the mythical realm of Epic, a land filled with legendary creatures and enchanting adventures. 

This is one of the smaller worlds in Genting SkyWorlds, boasting only two attractions. The magical atmosphere and beautifully themed environments captivate the imagination, making it a favorite, even for our little adventurer. 

We walked through lush, enchanted forests where mythical beings hid, and embarked on thrilling rides that brought fairy tales to life.

We enjoyed both rides, starting with Epic Voyage to Moonhaven. Upon entering we were warned that there’s a 50/50 chance of getting wet. We decided not to take the risk and bought a poncho. 

Glad we did, because you will 100% get wet during this boat ride. Right at the beginning of the voyage, the boat drops down a waterfall—a tiny bit scary because we didn’t see it coming—and we all got wet.

The other attraction (Epic Hummingbird Flyers) is more suitable for younger kids; it was fun going up and down trying to avoid the water shooters.

Epic is designed to spark wonder and joy in visitors, but its charm is especially potent for daredevils who are not afraid to get wet while on a heroic quest.

Andromeda Base 

Our next world to explore was the Andromeda Base, where you can blast off into the future. This sci-fi themed world is packed with thrilling rides and futuristic fun. 

High-speed roller coasters and immersive attractions make it a hit for older kids and teens. The space-age decor and special effects transport you to another galaxy, providing an out-of-this-world experience for all ages.

With rides that simulate space travel and adventures that make you feel like a true astronaut, Andromeda Base is perfect for thrill-seekers and sci-fi fans. 

We didn’t try any of the rides in this world as the Boot Camp Training has to be reserved in advance, and the Alpha Fighter Pilots and Terraform Tower Challenge required a minimum height of 122cm.

So, we continued our journey to Robots Rivet Town.

Robots Rivet Town 

Another one of the small worlds at Genting SkyWorlds is Robots Rivet Town. 

Here you can discover the wonders of this steampunk-inspired world brimming with mechanical marvels. With its intricate, gear-laden decor and inventive attractions, Robots Rivet Town immerses you in a fantastical industrial era where technology and creativity converge.

We enjoyed Bigweld’s Zeppelins, giving us panoramic views as we flew high over Robots Rivet Town! Unfortunately, the Rivet Town Roller was out of order on the day we visited. 

This world is a small hub of innovation and excitement, just a few steps away from Liberty Lane.

Liberty Lane 

Liberty Lane brings the charm of classic America to life with its vintage vibes and nostalgic atmosphere. 

This world features only one ride, Invasion of the Planet of the Apes, which is suitable for kids 110cm and taller. It was one of the longest lines we saw during our visit, so we assumed it’s one of the most popular rides in Genting SkyWorlds. 

Since our daughter is too small for the ride, we didn’t bother and continued on to Central Park. 

While Liberty Lane might not offer much for younger kids, its classic American style is a pleasant sight.

Central Park 

We passed Central Park at the beginning as we made our way to Rio. At the time of our visit, the entire world of Central Park was closed. 

It’s one of the bigger worlds at the outdoor theme park in Genting Highlands. We believe the closure is related to the recent fire incident. 

When we arrived by the Awana Cable Car, we already noticed part of Resorts World Genting was under construction, likely due to fire damage, but we didn’t realize it was Central Park.

Unfortunately, as we didn’t get a chance to see this world, we can’t review this part of the theme park.

Eagle Mountain 

Eagle Mountain is the final, and most centrally located, world in Genting SkyWorlds. There’s only one attraction, Mad Ramp Peak – Full Throttle Racing, but it’s a future attraction still under construction. Hence, we will refrain from reviewing this section.

Where is Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park located? 

The Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park is nestled in the cool, misty highlands of Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia. Located about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, it offers a scenic escape from the bustling city.

However, the drive includes many hairpin turns, which can cause car sickness. If anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness, be sure to have vomit bags and wet wipes handy—we certainly needed them on our way up.

Getting To Genting SkyWorlds from Kuala Lumpur

• By Car: Take the Karak Expressway and follow the signs to Genting Highlands. The drive is straightforward and takes approximately one hour.
• By Bus: You can board the RWT Ekspress Bus from KL Sentral. These buses will take you directly to the Awana Bus Terminal in Genting Highlands. Click here to check rates and availability. 
• By Grab: Book a Grab directly to Genting Highlands. This convenient option takes around an hour, depending on traffic.

Getting To Genting SkyWorlds from the Awana Cable Car Station

Once you arrive at the Awana Cable Car station, take the scenic ride up to the highlands. 

From the cable car station – you need to embark at the second station -, head towards the main plaza. To find the entrance to Genting SkyWorlds, go down to the Ground Floor. 

We initially wandered around Skytropolis and the mall. Best to make sure to follow the directional signs carefully from the beginning to avoid missing the entry point, unless, of course, you’d like to wander around first. 

What are the opening hours of Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park?

Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The park is closed every Tuesday, except during Malaysia’s public holidays and school holidays. 

This schedule allows you plenty of time to enjoy the various attractions and experiences throughout the park. But, be sure to plan your visit accordingly to make the most of your time at Genting SkyWorlds. 

The best time to visit Genting SkyWorlds is in the morning or early afternoon. We arrived after lunch and found no long lines, allowing us to enjoy the attractions without much waiting. 

However, by 4 PM, the lines had grown significantly longer, and the park was much busier. Planning your visit for earlier in the day can help you avoid the crowds and make the most of your time.

How Much is the Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park ticket price?

Ticket prices for Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park vary based on age and package options. Please refer to the table below for the latest updated rates (valid until 30 September 2024):

* Low season is from Sunday to Thursday, while peak season includes Friday, Saturday, and the eve of and on public holidays.

What Are VQ Reservations at Genting SkyWorlds? 

VQ (Virtual Queue) Reservations allow you to reserve a spot in line for popular attractions at Genting SkyWorlds, reducing wait times and ensuring you get the most out of your visit. 

With your ticket, you receive three VQ reservations that can be used throughout the day. 

To use them, simply scan the QR code on your ticket at the designated VQ kiosks or through the Genting SkyWorlds mobile app, select the attractions and time slots, and enjoy more time exploring the park instead of waiting in line.

Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park offers a Rainy Day Guarantee to ensure you still have a great time despite the weather. 

If inclement weather occurs between 11:00 AM and 2:59 PM during your visit, you’ll receive a 

FREE return visit ticket for your next trip. 

If the bad weather happens between 3:00 PM and 4:59 PM, you’ll get a 50% discount on your return visit ticket.

Hotels near Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park

Is Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park worth visiting? 

Yes, definitely! 

We had a great time at Genting SkyWorlds, and despite a few attractions being out of order, it wasn’t as bad as some reviews suggest. We could have easily spent the whole day exploring, but since we were with our 4-year-old, half a day was sufficient. 

The variety of themed worlds and attractions kept us entertained, and the overall experience was enjoyable for all of us. 

It’s a fantastic destination for a fun-filled family adventure and we can’t wait to take our upcoming visitors to Genting SkyWorlds for a fun day in the clouds.
