If you love creamy ricotta, perfectly poached eggs, or just a really satisfying breakfast that doesn’t feel like more of the same, Cotta in Mont Kiara is worth bookmarking.
We were invited for a hosted experience at their café on the sixth floor of Verve Shops, So we went with the whole crew; Baby S, Little Miss R, and two hungry parents ready to try something new.
Cotta wasn’t on our radar before, but it should have been. The team makes fresh ricotta in-house daily, with 100% Malaysian milk, and it features across much of the menu, from open-faced sandwiches to pasta, salad bowls and even desserts.
The café itself has a cosy, indoor rooftop feel with lots of greenery. It’s located in Mont Kiara, a popular neighborhood for expat families, and it’s serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. It’s also pet-friendly, so your dog is welcome to join you for your next meal out.

What We Ordered
We decided to go with the team’s recommendations and to start, we were served three of their bestsellers:
- Chuck Mooris – An open-faced sandwich of slow-cooked Australian beef, homemade chimichurri, a sous-vide egg, and that signature ricotta. Easily the highlight of the meal for me. The flavors came together beautifully, and we’d happily return just for this.
- Tuscany – Another open sandwich, this time with smoked mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and a house-made balsamic reduction. It was lighter and worked really well with the ricotta.
- Peruvian Chicken – Smokey jalapeños, oven-baked chicken thigh, and homemade Greek yogurt layered on crispy sourdough. This one packed a bit of a punch and was a nice contrast to the creamier dishes.

After that, we shared a salad and one of their pastas:
- Mai’s Tofu Feta Bowl – A mix of organic greens, sun-dried fruit, nuts, tofu curds, and fresh ricotta. A great option if you’re looking for something light but still interesting.
- Mushroom Ricotta Pasta – Al dente spaghetti tossed with smoked mushrooms, Sarawak black pepper, a sous-vide egg, and another hit of ricotta. Comforting, flavorful, and well-balanced.

We could have kept going; there’s a lot more on the menu worth trying, but we didn’t want to waste food. So we wrapped up with dessert:
- Ricotta Tiramisu – Creamy, not too sweet, and alcohol-free. Even Baby S was a big fan.
- Ricotta Ice Cream – Little Miss R tried a scoop and really enjoyed it. It was light, refreshing, and not overly sweet.

A Cosy, Leafy Space That Works for Families
Cotta is located on the sixth floor of Verve Shops Mont Kiara, and while it’s not a rooftop in the open-air sense, it really does feel like a hidden gem above the bustle. The space is casual, cosy, and filled with potted plants and small touches that make it feel warm and welcoming.
We visited with both kids in tow and immediately noticed how well it works for families. There were other parents with young kids dining too. We appreciated that high chairs were available and there was room to manoeuvre a stroller.
It’s a very informal restaurant. You don’t need to worry if your toddler chatters or your baby drops a spoon. It’s not a hushed fine-dining kind of café, and that’s a good thing. You’ll feel comfortable bringing the whole crew here.
Cotta is also pet-friendly, so if your morning crew includes a four-legged friend, you can bring them along for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

What Makes Cotta Different
What stood out to us, aside from how good the food was, is that this place isn’t trying to be trendy or overly polished. It’s simply good food, made with care, and rooted in one hero ingredient: fresh ricotta.
Cotta’s ricotta is made in-house every single day and features across the menu, in the open sandwiches, in the pastas, even in the desserts. It’s not overwhelming or repetitive. Each dish has its own flavor profile and balance.
We also spoke with Ivan, the founder and owner of the place, and learned that when they first opened, they only had three dishes yet look at them now! Another fun fact he shared is that there’s no classically trained chefs in the kitchen. Instead, the team taught themselves everything through practice and trial and error. (And yes, a healthy dose of YouTube.) The result is food that feels personal and unpretentious, but still elevated.
