Book Xcess in MyTown Shopping Mall 

Visit one of the biggest bookstores in Kuala Lumpur, located at MyTown Shopping Centre. Book Xcess is a beautiful place for families, friends, and solo goers to unwind and browse for new titles. This isn’t your typical bookstore because Book Xcess goes above and beyond to deliver fantastic service. We’ve visited this store several times and got lost in time.  

Not only do they have a massive collection of books and graphic novels, but they also have a dedicated event space for art exhibitions. If you’re looking for mainstream titles, this isn’t your place because here, you’ll find underrated gems with obscure titles. You’ll also encounter a wide selection of books in different languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia and more.

Book Xcess is a true book lovers’ and artists’ space with its aesthetically pleasing interior adorned by its maze of books and paintings. There’s also a piano inside, free for guests to play, a coffee place, and a Japanese restaurant. Awesome, right?

Everyone is welcome here, even if you’re not a book lover and just want a place to chill and relax. Or if you’re looking for the perfect place to take Instagram-worthy photos, Book Xcess marks the spot!

We’ve included the MyTOWN outlet as that’s the one we visited most. However, there are Book Xcess stores in many different malls in Kuala Lumpur. Visit this link to find a Book Xcess near you.

Tsutaya Bookstore at Intermark Kuala Lumpur

Situated at an accessible location in the Intermark Mall, Tsutaya Bookstore provides book lovers a safe haven. Its warm and inviting atmosphere lures you right in, along with its diverse collection of books ranging from paperback classics to fiction, non-fiction, and niche topics. They also have quite a collection of stationery worth looking into.

Tsutaya Bookstore has an in-house cafe, a godsend for book enthusiasts looking for a cozy escape while sipping on a delicious cup of coffee and getting lost in the pages of a new book. Aside from coffee, the in-house coffee lounge also serves a variety of beverages, including matcha lemonade, lavender lemonade, iced/hot cafe latte, cappuccino, etc.

At the time of writing (December 2023), this is the newest bookstore in Klang Valley and while it’s not as big as some others on the list, we love its location in KLCC – Ampang Hilir. Junk Bookstore

Looking to satisfy your search for pre-loved books and rare titles? Junk Book Store is a good place to start with its collection of rare titles, from books and magazines to comics. The independent bookstore itself feels very historic, with great visuals, great if you’re looking for a vintage bookstore to do some photography. You can easily get lost browsing for hours for rare and antique gems under their pile of books. But if you find one worth keeping, hold onto it because you never know how valuable it might be. They also offer second-hand books in different languages, such as Malay, English, Chinese, German, and Spanish.

Eslite Spectrum Bookstore in Bukit Bintang

This eye-catching bookstore in Bukit Bintang is its first-ever flagship store in Southeast Asia. Eslite Spectrum is a highly innovative venue that showcases Malaysia and Taiwan’s cultural and creative content through books, music, performing arts, restaurants, coffee shops, and so much more.

Their wide range of books includes books in various languages, such as Chinese, English, and Malay. Walking inside the venue will feel like you’re venturing into a museum or grand exhibit. They even have a tiny corner that displays a few fancy writing instruments.

Aside from that, there’s a cafe and plenty of reading spaces to nestle in while reading a good book. The cafe is in the center of this Kuala Lumpur bookstore, overlooking the lower floors. There are also a few small restaurants where you can enjoy local and Chinese food.

When you arrive on the Eslite Spectrum (level 1), you might be wondering where is Eslite Spectrum bookstore? Before getting to the actual bookstore you can wander around some very fine boutique stores.

Once you enter the book section, you’ll be amazed at how big it is. As mentioned before, there are different sections with many different languages. They also feature a large section of stationary and even a section for puzzles.

Overall, Eslite Spectrum provides you with an extraordinary experience that will encourage you to embark on a creative discovery.

Kinokuniya in Suria KLCC

Monalisa Bookstore in Bukit Jalil

Monalisa Bookstore offers wanderers and book readers a neat and cozy place to stay. Once you enter, you can immediately appreciate its relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, highlighted by the warm lighting. If you’re looking forward to reading, writing, or doing homework, Monalisa Bookstore has the perfect environment.

It’s a great place to buy books, especially Chinese books, if you want to learn more about the culture. While on the second floor, you’ll find a selection of English books (including English literary titles) to browse. They have a mini cafe that serves nice tea, coffee, and delectable cakes. While it can be expensive, their Japanese food menu is worth the try!

MPH Bookstore in Mid Valley

The MPH Bookstore in Mid Valley is a true bookworm’s haven with their expansive selection of books offering diverse titles and genres. They also have a decent selection of stationery, magazines, educational toys, supplies, and more, perfect for gifting. If you’re looking for a popular title, you’ll most likely find it here in MPH Bookstore along with the best-sellers.

For your office needs, they have an in-store print shop called Office+ providing services like scanning, photocopying, laminating, faxing, rubber stamping, business cards, printing, and more. Visit on the weekends and participate in fun activities for adults and kids hosted by the store!

Aside from the decent collection of books, they also have online services and WiFi for those looking for a quiet workplace. The kids’ library corner is also great, with plenty of space to do craft activities and read kids’ books.

Toilets and lockers are available for public use and are well-kept and cleaned. The Kuala Lumpur Public Library provides visitors a clean and peaceful environment for working, reading, and unwinding.
