If you’re searching for an art workshop for kids in KL that goes beyond painting a paper plate, Motion Studio Asia might be exactly what you’re looking for.
We visited with three kids, a 3-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a 6-year-old, and it was one of those rare activities where nobody was ready to leave when the time was up. Not the kids, and not the adults.
In this review, I’ll walk you through the two workshops we tried, what the experience was actually like with young kids, what everything costs, and what you need to know before you book.

What Is Motion Studio Asia?
Motion Studio Asia is an art jamming studio located in Mid Valley City, offering hands-on creative workshops for all ages and skill levels.
The workshops on offer are:
- Bear Brick Painting: customize and paint your own Bearbrick figurine using pour painting techniques
- Splat Art Jamming: create abstract paintings on canvas using splashes, drips, and a water gun
- Motion Art Jamming: use a swinging pendulum and spinning table to create patterned canvas art
- Slime-Tastic Creation: mix and customize your own stretchy, squishy slime from scratch
When you walk in, you immediately know you’re in a creative space. Finished artworks line the shelves and walls, and the studio is split into two distinct areas: the workshop tables on one side for Bear Brick Painting and Slime-making, and the splat atelier on the other side for the paint-based sessions.
Where to Find Motion Studio Asia
Motion Studio Asia is located at 31-2, The Boulevard Offices, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Mid Valley City, 59200 Kuala Lumpur, between MidValley Megamall and Gardens Mall.
The easiest way to get there is through MidValley. Exit via the center court towards Gardens Mall, cross the drop-off road, and take the first lift in the building on your right up to Floor 2.
Opening hours:
- Sunday to Thursday: 10 am to 7 pm
- Friday and Saturday: 10 am to 9 pm
One thing worth knowing: the MidValley area gets extremely busy on public holidays. We visited on one and the crowds were noticeable, so if you can go on a weekday or a quieter weekend morning, it’s worth planning for. Either way, it won’t affect your experience inside the studio itself.
Bear Brick Painting For Kids
This was the first workshop we did, and a great one to start with. The setup is relaxed, the process is straightforward, and it works beautifully for a mixed-age group.
What Happens in This Creative Workshop?
When you sit down, each person chooses their Bearbrick figurine. The shapes vary; definitely a lot more choice than just bears or bunnies. For our session, the kids picked a Stitch, a castle, and a car.
They also had to choose three paint colors and one glitter, and the session gets started.
The process has three stages:
First, you paint the entire bear with a base color:
Then, you pour your chosen colors into special cups and pour them over the bear, letting them run and blend:
Finally, you finish with glitter:
The teacher was friendly, patient, and genuinely good with the kids, stepping in to help when needed without taking over. The whole session runs for about 60 minutes.
Who Is Bear Brick Painting For?
All ages. Our 3-year-old nephew was fully able to participate with some adult help, and the older kids worked more independently. It’s also genuinely fun for adults, not just something you sit and watch.
Everyone walks away with a unique, handmade Bearbrick figurine they actually want to display.

The standard session is RM109 per person and includes a regular 23cm Bearbrick, four colors of paint, protective gear, tools, and 60 minutes.
Add-ons are available if you want to upgrade:

Splat Art Jamming
If Bear Brick Painting is the warm-up, Splat Art Jamming is the main event. This is the one the kids are still talking about.
What Happens in the Splat Art Painting Session
You swap your shoes for slippers and step into the splat zone, which sets the tone immediately. The walls are already covered floor to ceiling in layers of dried paint from previous sessions. It’s chaotic and brilliant.
A white canvas hung on the wall in front of us. After listening to the teacher’s instructions, we kicked things off by throwing a paint-filled balloon above the canvas. The kids got to choose three colors and one glitter, and were provided with a selection of tools: a water gun, a fly spatter, and a mini broom. The goal, if there is one, is just to go for it.
The kids were absolutely in their element. There’s something about being told you can make as much mess as you want that brings out a very particular kind of joy in a five-year-old.
Who Is this Workshop For?
Kids who love mess, freedom, and a bit of chaos will thrive here. That said, it works just as well for adults. It’s surprisingly therapeutic to splat paint at a canvas with zero pressure to make it “good.”
The finished paintings genuinely looked beautiful. Each one was unique, and the kids were proud of them in a way that felt real, not just polite.

More Creative Workshops for Kids
We only managed two workshops on this visit, but Motion Studio Asia actually offers four in total. The other two are on our list for next time.
Motion Art Jamming uses a swinging pendulum and a spinning table to create patterned canvas art. It’s a fascinating concept; the movement of the pendulum influences the shapes and patterns that form, which means every piece turns out differently. At RM129 per person, it runs for 60 minutes.
Slime-Tastic Creation is exactly what it sounds like: you mix and customize your own stretchy, squishy slime from scratch, with add-ons like glitter, beads, and different slime types to choose from. It’s a shorter session at around 45 minutes and the most budget-friendly option at RM59 per person, which makes it a great add-on if you’re already coming for one of the other workshops.
What to Know Before You Book
A few practical things worth knowing before you head over.
Book in advance. This is the most important one. When we arrived, the studio was fully booked. We had reserved our spots ahead of time, which saved us, but if you’re planning to just walk in, especially on a weekend or public holiday, there’s a real chance you’ll be turned away.
It’s suitable for all ages. Younger kids can join in with an adult alongside them, which works well. Our three-year-old nephew had no trouble keeping up with a little help.
Everything you need is provided. Protective gear, tools, and materials are all included in the session price. Just show up.

Short answer: yes, without hesitation.
It’s one of those activities that works for everyone in the group, regardless of age or artistic ability. The kids were engaged from start to finish, the instructor was patient and genuinely good with them, and the finished pieces were something everyone actually wanted to take home.
What sets it apart from a lot of kids’ art workshops in KL is that it doesn’t feel like a school activity. There’s no pressure to do it “right,” and that makes a big difference, especially for younger kids who can sometimes feel overwhelmed by structured craft sessions.
